I have been asked by a number of residents about any plans to reduce the speed limit on the Ring Road between Moortown District Centre and the Lawnswood Roundabout, there have been fatal accidents and there are lower limits on stretches adjacent. I have now received the update below from the Highways Engineer:
“Dear Councillor Anderson,
Thank you for patience whilst this matter has been investigated, following the fatal incident that recently occurred.
We have recently reviewed the speed limit reduction request on the Ring Road (Moortown) and feel that it may be possible to present a business case, with the supporting evidence, for a speed reduction to 50mph from King Lane to Weetwood Lane junction. The speed data also suggests that it may be possible on the section between Weetwood Lane to the A660 to reduce a section of this to 40mph. However, the exact location of where the change from 50 to 40 on the section between Weetwood Lane and the A660 would be, would have to be discussed in greater detail with the Police.
I am aware that this speed limit review is part of the A660 Lawnswood roundabout scheme and I can confirm that we are already looking into what lower speed limit we would be able to support and present to the Police for their consideration and approval.
Any proposal that is carried forward in your ward will of course be consulted upon with Ward Members at the earliest opportunity for your views.”
