New Station Street: northern section closes to pedestrians
Pedestrians using Leeds City Rail Station will not be able to walk along the northern section of New Station Street (from the station’s main entrance to City Square) from Thursday 24 August, as the latest stage of transformation works begin.
Pedestrians must use the other side of New Station Street - towards Boar Lane, the station’s northern entrance opposite the Majestic building, or the southern entrance which is open between 6am and 10pm. Find out more about the alternative routes here.
The temporary closure is to allow further works on the Leeds Station Sustainable Travel Gateway scheme, which will create a much-improved and more people-friendly environment. Find out more here.
Harewood Bridge re-opens ahead of schedule
Essential maintenance works at Harewood Bridge have completed ahead of schedule. The bridge re-opened to vehicles today (Friday 18 August) with works involving waterproofing, resurfacing and footpath repairs.
Find out more in the press release.
Stanningley Bypass set to reopen
The road works on Stanningley Bypass will be successfully completed on Monday 21 August. These essential upgrades were part of Leeds City Council's annual maintenance programme, complementing last year’s westbound joint and resurfacing works.
We would like to thank all road users for their patience and understanding throughout these improvements.
Proposed rail strikes
As you're gearing up for the bank holiday weekend, please be aware that the RMT union has proposed industrial action between Saturday 26 August and Saturday 2 September. Please plan ahead, and check the Northern Rail journey planner to minimise disruption to your travel between these dates.
