Plan ahead: final Armley Gyratory footbridge installation
Road users are urged to plan ahead for significant disruption at the Armley Gyratory as the final Wellington Road footbridge is installed. Completion of all three upgraded footbridges is expected by early spring 2025.
Key Dates:
- Full closure of A58 Wellington Road: From 8pm Saturday, 8 February until 5:30am Monday, 10 February. All lanes of Wellington Road inbound and outbound will be closed with a full diversion in place.
- Additional closures on Canal Street and Wellington Road: 6am to 9am Sunday, 11 February.
The new footbridge, spanning 43.5 metres, will be wider, more accessible, and designed for long-term durability.
Preparatory overnight work begins Monday, 27 January with full closures affecting the northbound carriageway from the Armley Gyratory to Armley Road and the southbound carriageway from Wellington Street to the Gyratory.

Free mature driver appraisal
Following the success of their pilot programme, the charity William Merritt Centre, are expanding the Mature Driver Appraisal to help even more mature motorists drive safely.
The Mature Driver Appraisal is a free, 90-minute session with an approved driving instructor to review your driving. Taking place in your own car and driving to places you usually go, the appraisal aims to build your confidence, equip you with tips and advice, and reassure you that you are driving safely.
John, 81, from Crossgates (pictured above) drives most days and uses his car to visit his son in Liverpool. He took the appraisal and said, “I would definitely recommend it to others.”
Would you or do you know someone who would benefit from the scheme?
