I have been sent the information below. I hope this is useful to you:
Refuse Service End of Day Report for Monday 6th January 2025:
Due to the ongoing challenges caused by the heavy snowfall and icy conditions, it will not be possible to complete a significant number of collections today.
The scale of missed collections means we will not be providing the usual end of day streets list/detail or providing an ongoing update on recovery plans for specific streets relating to today’s scheduled collections. We would instead refer to the public message provided in red text below. Where a full route was stood down, we will email those ward members separately.
Remarkably, 90% of staff made it to work in the early hours today, and so 54 out of the 60 scheduled routes today were attempted. However, the conditions in many of the side and back streets in particular meant they could either not be safely driven into/through or bins safely wheeled out through the snow/ice; despite crews returning later in the day to those streets missed to try again. The extra number of cars parked on streets as many people understandably stayed at home added to the risk of accident and challenge.
There remains a likelihood of further issues tomorrow as un-melted snow/ice persists on some streets/paths. We plan to return to the usual End of Day streets list/detail tomorrow.
The message to the public is:
We are sorry for the disruption to collections caused by the recent snow and ongoing conditions. Collection crews have been out in force and doing all they can to get as many bins emptied as safely possible in very difficult conditions.
Should your bin not be collected on the scheduled weekday this week you can leave it out if you wish to and we will do our best to return to empty it this week.
However, if it has not been emptied by the end of Sunday 12th then it will not be emptied until the next scheduled collection day for that bin and so should be taken back in. We will prioritise revisiting missed black bins and those areas with the highest concentrations of population/housing. The eight citywide Household Waste and Recycling Centres are open all day, every day (subject to any further weather incidents) and where any excess waste can be taken and disposed of for free.
A reminder that for anyone whose fortnightly green or black bin was not collected on Sunday 5th, these will still be collected on Sunday 12th instead. For these bins, any additional/excess waste can be left for collection next to the bin providing it is securely bagged.
With regards to those collections that were already postponed on Sunday 5th to Sunday 12th, as mentioned above this remains the plan and we will take any excess/extra waste that is presented securely in a bag with those bins.
