You may remember last year I was advised that the Council were considering charging for parking at Golden Acre car park and residents came back with a resounding “No” to the proposals. I passed this information to the Council and as a result of this and other evidence presented to them, they changed their minds and decided not to proceed.
However, they have returned this year with a consultation for the same proposal. I am attaching the questionnaire which is due to go live tomorrow, and commentary from the officer at the Council.
Can I encourage as many people as possible to complete it using whichever method is best for you and also to let me know your views again, even although they may be the same as last year.
The Council don’t appear to have addressed all of the issues and have left things rather vague, hence their consultation isn’t very clear as to what their actual proposals are, or confirmation as to whether or not they are going to listen to the consultation responses.
Note from the Council Officer:
"Please see attached the consultation questionnaire for information (which will be used for the paper version) which is due to go live tomorrow – the electronic version is accessible via a web link indicated in the document and the QR code. There will be posters put up on site and paper copies will be made available at the café as well as social media posts to promote the survey and to encourage as many as possible to fill it in and give us their views.
You will note that the questionnaire lists a summary of proposals that include the following: ‘It is proposed that work would commence on improvements to Arthington Road before charges are introduced.’ We have already commenced work on putting a scheme together to include options on surfaces and bay marking should a decision be taken to adopt these proposals. Ideally a scheme of improvement would be put in place first, but as funding would be dependent on completion of the process to implement Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs), it is likely that work will have commenced, but will not be completed before any introduction of charges."
