NORTHERN POWERGRID: WE ARE AWARE AND WATCHING A WEATHER FRONT
18:00 Thursday 16th February, 2023
Met Office Yellow Wind Alert – Latest Update
We’ve been tracking the weather front for strong winds, which are now expected to hit our region tomorrow - Friday 17th February - from 5am through to 2pm. The updated forecast predicts gusts of 55-65mph, with some as high as 75mph possible. Originally the forecast was impacting northern parts of our region, however the area to be impacted has now extended to include South Yorkshire.
We have moved to the next stage in our planned response and we are ready to mobilise colleagues as this situation develops. This weather front does have the potential to have an impact and cause damage to our network, and there is a possibility that there could be disruption to power supplies in at least some parts of the region. The relevant teams are on standby and ready to be diverted onto storm response should this materialise. We have a fleet of generators ready to be deployed where they are the most effective way of restoring supplies and our customer support vehicles and welfare partners are also prepped and ready to go out into local communities where possible, to offer help on the ground to those who need it most.
Customers on our Priority Service Membership, who are reliant on electricity for medical purposes and may need greater assistance during a power cut will be kept updated as a priority. For any customers on our priority service membership who require further support, they can contact our dedicated priority customers service line 0800 169 2996.
