Please find below information on the School Uniform Exchange events which took place over the Summer. This is part of the Zero Waste campaign:
-------------------------------------
"We now have all the data and stats from around the city and would like to share with you the impact the Leeds School Uniform Exchange (LSUE) and other local uniform exchanges have had, especially over the summer holidays and at the Breeze events funded by councillors.
There were uniform exchanges at 20 of the 26 family events this summer and the LSUE team attended 11 of those. At Breeze events we saw an increase in our figures from last year and gave away an amazing 5,849 items of uniform to 1,245 families. At Breeze events alone we estimate that we have saved families £99,433 by offering free school uniform and saving them having to buy new. This also means that 1,170kg of textile waste has been saved.
The most popular events were Armley, Bramley, East End Park, Pudsey and Wortley which saw more than 400 items being given out at each event.
Both of the events in LS16 (Bramhope and Tinshill) were attended by Sara Brown of LS15 Community Uniform Exchange. Sara also held two additional events over the holidays.
Across all the events Sara has handed out 1,186 items to 217 families.
To improve our reporting this year, we asked for the first part of the postcode of families requesting uniform at the Breeze events so that we could see where people were coming from and ensure we had the correct stock available at events.
We have attached our impact report together with two spreadsheets showing the breakdown of total families and items broken down by area and also the breakdown of the number of items taken by each family broken down by area. We are planning to request full postcodes going forward as we realised that some postcode areas are covered by different wards.
By way of explanation, there are some gaps because this year we focussed on target areas agreed with LCC and ensured we were at all the events where demand was expected to be highest although we did also amend our schedule and attend additional events by specific request.
A few highlights from the postcode data
- We had huge success with families from LS12 (Armley; Farnley & Wortley). 146 families from this area took a total of 928 items. Closely behind this were families from LS9 (Burmantofts & Richmond Hill, Gipton & Harehills) where 125 families took 792 items.
- Across the events 216 families travelled to events outside the home postcode with the Crossgates event seeing the highest (33 families from outside LS15 with the most coming from LS14 and LS25)
- There was a total of 17 families attending events who travelled from outside Leeds
In terms of the number of items taken, here are a few points to note
- Most families took between 2-4 items but it's also clear that families could find a lot of the items they needed for their children: 225 families took between 5-10 items each and 87 families took over 10 items each.
- The highest number of items taken by a single person/family was 39 at our event in East End Park. At both the Armley and Scott Hall events, we were able to provide 36 items to a family.
If you have any questions regarding the data or the Leeds School Uniform Exchange in general, please get in touch as we’d love your feedback.
