As you may be aware, for some time now I have been attempting to get Highways and Traffic Control to come up with a solution to help pedestrians cross the road at the above junction and was advised that formal controlled crossings were not going to be considered. However, I was advised they would look for another solution and set out below is the latest update I have received. The “other colleagues” referred to are the Highways Engineers:
"We have installed some sensors that will extend to all red time to vehicles if they see people crossing the road. Although this isn’t as good as full pedestrian facilities it should help people to get across the road more safely.
Urban Traffic Management Control (UTMC) maintain the existing traffic signals but we don’t specify changes (such as adding pedestrian facilities) this would sit with other colleagues.
